The Fröttstädt train station is in Fröttstädt ( district of Gotha , Thuringia ) on the Halle – Bebra railway line and is the starting point for the single-track branch line to Friedrichroda . The connections to the nearby cities of Erfurt , Gotha and Eisenach are well developed. For example, Gotha can be reached in less than ten minutes and Erfurt in around 30 minutes.
history
The Weißenfels - Gerstungen railway line, opened in 1847 by the Thuringian Railway Company , ran north past the town of Waltershausen , so that a horse-drawn tram from Fröttstädt to Waltershausen was opened as early as 1848 . Fröttstädt was the starting point for Thuringia's first branch line. This line was expanded in 1874 as part of the conversion to steam operation on the Fröttstädt – Waltershausen – Friedrichroda line , the management of which was leased to the Central Administration for Secundairbahnen Herrmann Bachstein in 1876 . This expansion turned the Fröttstädt station into a wedge station with the station building between the tracks on both lines. The branch line to Friedrichroda was taken over together with other lines in the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha in 1889 by the Prussian State Railway , which extended it to Georgenthal in 1896 and expanded it with a second track to Schnepfenthal in 1907–1912, which was dismantled again in 1942/1943 . After the opening of the Thuringian Forest Railway in 1929, passenger traffic on the branch line decreased. In 1947 the tracks between Friedrichroda and Georgenthal were dismantled in order to be brought to the Soviet Union as reparations . Until the decline in industry as a result of reunification , freight transport dominated. This was largely discontinued in 1994. The tourist traffic was switched to a regular schedule in 1998. In 2016/2017, as the maximum speed was increased, the underpass was filled and replaced by stairs and lifts to Hörselgauer Straße . The former station building was sold by Deutsche Bahn , the covered area west of the station building was closed.

In the course of the start of operations in the "Saale-Thuringia-Südharz network", Abellio took over regional train line 20 from DB Regio Südost in December 2015 . Since then, Talent-2 multiple units have been used instead of Halberstadt center-entry cars . Since December 2017, the regional train line to Friedrichroda has been part of the "Diesel Network South Thuringia", which is operated by the South Thuringia Railway, which uses Regio-Shuttle railcars .
