Frankfurt-Ginnheim station is the working title of a planned stop for the Rhein-Main S-Bahn in the immediate vicinity of the Niddapark underground station , west of the Ginnheim district of Frankfurt . It is to be built as part of the four-track expansion of the Main-Weser Railway between the Frankfurt (Main) West station and Friedberg .
At almost the same place there was a provisional stopping point during the 1989 Federal Garden Show in Niddapark , which was abandoned after the event. In addition, a depot named Ginnheim existed here until December 4, 2016 in the form of an overhaul track to the east of the continuous main tracks, which was assigned to route kilometer 193.2. Two sidings to the west were still available when the operating site was closed, but had not been connected for a long time. In the course of the construction work to expand the Main-Weser Railway, the sidings and the signal box were removed.
The U-Bahn line D crosses the Main-Weser-Bahn in the area of the former train station together with Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse on a bridge, where the Niddapark U-Bahn station is located . As part of the expansion of the Main-Weser-Bahn, a new stop for the Rhein-Main S-Bahn is to be created as a transfer station to the U-Bahn. Concerns had arisen about this project based on the fear that it could restrict car traffic on Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse because initial ideas provided for access to the subway station as a pedestrian crossing over Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse, one Urban expressway without construction with two separate lanes, each with two lanes.
