The Niddapark underground station is a station of the Frankfurt underground on the D-route . The station is served by lines U1 and U9.

location

Like the entire route coming from the north-west center, the station is located between the lanes of Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse , an inner-city expressway without any cultivation .

The structure of the Niddapark station is at the same time the western bridgehead of the three bridges that lead the two lanes of Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße and the underground line over the street Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen and the Main-Weser-Bahn . The subway bridge dips down between the two carriageway bridges, which grow together again as far as Ginnheimer Landstrasse , lands on a raised ramp at the level of Ginnheimer Waldgasse , from where the tracks swivel to the south and finally into the ground-level underground Ginnheim station ends, which forms a shared station with the tram. Part of the underground bridge is a sidewalk pedestrian walkway.

The station is only accessible from the street Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen . A wide staircase leads to the intermediate level, from which stairs lead to the two side platforms .

There is an elevator from the street level to the mezzanine level , but it is out of order and is protected from vandalism by a steel casing . There are inclined elevators on the stairs - also protected by a steel jacket ; This would mean that the station could be made barrier-free without major modifications , which is also to happen in the course of the four-track expansion of the Main-Weser Railway by 2022.

The formerly glazed walls in the front part of the platforms have lost their panes due to vandalism.

A ticket machine is located at street level in front of the entrance to the station. A smaller staircase on the right side of the street front leads first to the mezzanine level and then to the pedestrian walkway at the subway bridge.

The station offers direct access to the Niddapark of the same name , which emerged from the Federal Garden Show in 1989 .

Like the neighboring Römerstadt station , the stairs leading from the platforms to the south are roofed over with a stair-like structure of curved concrete slabs, which give both stations their characteristic appearance. Daylight enters the stairwells between the slabs.

history

Federal Garden Show 1989

The station was planned under the project name Rosengärtchen since the mid- 1970s with a view to the Federal Horticultural Show .

For the Federal Garden Show in what is now Niddapark, there was a wide footbridge from the mezzanine level over the exit from the expressway. The ramp with flat steps leading up from the station to the bridge still exists, the bridge itself no longer exists. The access to this ramp is now closed and serves as a storage room for one of the construction companies working for VGF .

During the Federal Garden Show, there was also a station with wooden platforms for the S-Bahn on the Main-Weser-Bahn , which was directly below the bridge of the underground and the expressway.

After that

After the end of the Federal Garden Show was u. a. the pedestrian bridge over the exit from the expressway removed.

The station has been little frequented since then, as there are no apartments, shops or offices in the immediate vicinity. Only the restaurant, which was formerly called Zum Ginnheimer Wäldchen , and the sports facilities further west on the street Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen are near the Niddapark station. Due to the small number of users, there was extensive damage from vandalism.

future

Transfer point to the S-Bahn

In the course of the construction of own tracks for the S-Bahn along the Main-Weser-Bahn , a stop for the S-Bahn is to be built in the immediate vicinity of the U-Bahn station, but not again under the bridge, but to the north . This is - derived from the former Ginnheim depot - under the working title "Ginnheim"; However, this name is reserved for the subway and tram station of the same name on Ginnheimer Landstrasse and must be given the name of the transfer station until completion.

Remarks

  1. This is not to be confused with the "Rosengärtchen" station, which opened in Oberursel in 1997 on the U3 subway line!
