The Geneva-Sécheron train station is a two-track regional station in the Swiss city of Geneva . It is best known for its modern architecture and for its proximity to the headquarters of various international organizations. It was opened to traffic on December 11, 2004 when the timetable changed.

Location and architecture

The station is located on the Lausanne – Geneva line north of the Geneva-Cornavin train station in the north of the city of Geneva. The name Sécheron refers to the neighboring quarter of the same name, which will be built on the site of the former SAAS machine factory by 2013 and contains one of the largest urban development concepts in the Geneva agglomeration. For example, the tobacco company Japan Tobacco International is to build its new headquarters in the Sécheron district . In addition, the station is in the immediate vicinity of the Geneva locations of all international organizations such as the United Nations and the headquarters of the ICRC or the WTO .

The architecture captivates with a bold steel construction in red color, which also includes the passageways. There are two platform tracks, but only the main track has a connection to the passageway. The main track is the regional traffic lane Coppet - Geneva, there is no connection to the long-distance double lane. The second, rarely used track can only be reached by crossing the main track.

Rail operations

The station is served every half hour by the regional transport line Coppet - Geneva - Lancy Pont Rouge. With the opening of the CEVA line in 2012, the Sécheron station will also be integrated into the new S-Bahn network of the city of Geneva.

city traffic

The connection to the station is provided by the TPG tram lines 13 and 15.
