The Grünberg (Oberhess) train station is, along with the Lehnheim and Göbelnrod stops, one of three operating train stations in the town of Grünberg in central Hesse . It is located at kilometer 23.2 of of casting by Fulda leading Vogelsberg Railway . Earlier chain here on Londorf by Lollar leading Lumdatalbahn and about Lich and Münzenberg after Butzbach leading weather roller coaster on the main track.

history

The Grünberg station was opened with the first section of the Vogelsbergbahn from Gießen to Grünberg on December 29, 1869. Six months later, the Vogelsberg Railway was continued to Alsfeld .

In 1896 the Lumdatalbahn was opened via Londorf to Lollar . This made Grünberg a regional railway junction with heavy traffic. The Lumdatal route served exclusively regional and freight traffic. From the start of operations, most of the trains were tied through to Gießen via Lollar. On May 26, 1963, the Londorf – Grünberg section was shut down and dismantled as early as 1965. Since 2010 this section can be used as an extension of the Lumda-Wieseck cycle path .

On August 1, 1909, the Butzbach-Licher Railway (Wettertal Railway ) was completed with the extension from Lich to Grünberg. This had its own train station, the Grünberg Süd train station, near the Grünberg train station. On October 4, 1953, the Lich – Grünberg line was shut down again.

Reception building

The station building of the Grünberger Bahnhof is a two-story building. Today it still houses a travel agency of DB Vertrieb GmbH. The agency owner is Rosenthal Tickets & More. The building was sold to private customers on January 1, 2017 with the former goods handling facility.

Tracks

The Grünberger Bahnhof has two platform tracks on a house platform and a central platform. Trains with the destination Mücke / Alsfeld / Fulda stop at the house platform (platform 1). The trains in the direction of Reiskirchen / Großen-Buseck / Gießen stop at platform 2. Track 3 used to get to Londorf and Lollar. The switches to this track were dismantled, however, and after modernization work, the track has been interrupted by a platform access since 2019 and is unusable.

To the southwest of the station building was a track with a platform for the passenger trains of the Butzbach-Licher Eisenbahn , the actual, four-track Grünburg Süd station was west of Londorfer Strasse. There was also a locomotive shed and a transfer track. Today the area is built over, among other things by the fire station .

Freight depot

The freight yard connects to the tracks of the Grünberger Bahnhof to the north. There are two overgrown tracks here. There is a large goods shed next to the tracks , which is no longer in use today.

traffic

Grünberg is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV).
