The Lauterbach (Hess) Nord train station is now a through station at the Vogelsberg Railway from casting to Fulda in Eastern Hesse . Until the closure of the Oberwaldbahn to Glauburg-Stockheim , it was a connecting station .

history

Goods handling hall

The station was built as part of the construction of the Alsfeld - Lauterbach section , which was inaugurated on November 22, 1870. As of December 31 of the same year, the following section to Bad Salzschlirf was also completed. In 1901 the Oberwaldbahn between Lauterbach Nord and Grebenhain was opened. Extensions to the station took place on a larger scale around 1905 when the Niddertal Railway, as an extension of the Oberwald Railway, established the direct connection to Frankfurt am Main .

In 1975, passenger traffic on the Oberwaldbahn was discontinued, and freight traffic gradually, on the last stretch to Lauterbach Süd in 2001.

The high-rise buildings of the station are cultural monuments according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . The pedestrian overpass northwest of the train station, which is also under monument protection, is a riveted iron structure, was extended in the course of the expansion of the track structure around 1905 and was primarily used by pedestrians coming from the Maar . On November 28, 2008 it was demolished by Deutsche Bahn without consulting the State Office for Monument Preservation and the city of Lauterbach.

In September 2009, DB CEO Rüdiger Grube announced that Deutsche Bahn would expand the Vogelsbergbahn by 2011 with a total of 24.6 million euros from economic stimulus program II . The modernization work lasted from mid-June 2010 to summer 2011.

Since the 2011/2012 timetable change on December 11, 2011, passenger traffic has been handled by Hessische Landesbahn GmbH (HLB) using LINT 41 diesel multiple units.

The station building is the seat of the office of the association Pro Bahn & Bus e. V. On January 1, 2014, the building was sold to a private investor.
