The station Harzgerode is a landmarked station at the Selketalbahn in the city Harzgerode in Saxony-Anhalt in the resin .
location
It is located north below the old town of Harzgerode at the address Bahnhof 1–2 . In the past, the address was also provided at Am Bahnhof 1 .
Architecture and history
After the completion of the railway line, the station was built as the terminus of the Selketalbahn in 1895/96 at a height of 387 meters. Despite the later expansion of the Selketalbahn from Alexisbad in the direction of Stiege (Harz) , the station remained the terminus of the section leading to Harzgerode. The reception building has two storeys and its design is based on traditional building forms of the region. While the ground floor is solid, the upper floor was built in half-timbered construction.
The station complex included an independent engine shed, a turntable, a coal depot and a water station with two water cranes . A goods shed , a fixed loading ramp and two open loading tracks were also built . A brickworks and the Harzgeroder iron works were connected via sidings. The turntable was removed again in 1907. The locomotive shed disappeared in 1971. In 1986, roll-head traffic was introduced and the track system was modified accordingly.
On March 10, 1977 the Harzgerode station was the starting point for a train accident on the Selketalbahn. A steam-powered train loaded with aluminum bars for the VEB Druckguss- und Kolbenwerke was inadvertently not correctly connected to the brake pressure line while shunting. The train then began to move uncontrollably on the sloping track towards Alexisbad and could not be braked by the locomotive. The train derailed in the Long Valley , the train crew could jump off the locomotive and survived.
In the local register of monuments , the station is listed as a monument under registration number 107 15046 .
The station restaurant "Zur Harzbahn" exists in the station.
