Railway stations in Thuringia |
The station Immelborn is a Keilbahnhof at the Werrabahn (route 6311, today KBS 575).
Basic data
At the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the station was classified as a "3rd class station" like the neighboring stations in Bad Liebenstein, Breitungen or Marksuhl. In today's station category it is listed as category 6. At times, express trains coming from Bad Liebenstein stopped in Immelborn . Today, the regional express "Rodelblitz" is the only higher-quality type of train that stops on the Werra Railway in the winter months. The railcars of the South Thuringia Railway to Bad Salzungen – Eisenach and Meiningen – Eisfeld (–Sonneberg – Neuhaus) stop every hour. In the operating point directory , the abbreviation for the station is UIM.
history
The station was opened in 1859. In 1889 the facilities were expanded with the commissioning of the branch line to Bad Liebenstein . At times, the Immelborn station was the seat of a railway maintenance office and it also had three main tracks on the Werra railway side. Since 1956 the station became more important with the construction of the gravel works, it was calculated with a daily traffic of 60 cars. In the 70s of the last century, the railway systems were expanded in a north-westerly direction through use by the Suhl housing estate , the NVA and the Bad Salzungen heating plant .
The discontinuation of rail traffic in the direction of Bad Liebenstein in 1970 did not bring any major changes to Immelborn station. Only after the fall of the Wall were the connection systems shut down and the rails removed (housing combination, heating plant and hard metal plant, sawmill). DB Cargo discontinued single wagon traffic, so that the loading line was no longer needed. In 1997, the Immelborn gravel works also stopped loading the railroad, and the Bundeswehr was the only freight customer to remain (two sidings).
The abandonment of the station only appeared to be a matter of time, when the neighboring Breitungen station was closed in 2000. The crossing track was only used very little. But things turned out differently: In 2005 the connecting railway was put back into operation by the gravel works and gravel loading has been taking place again since 2006. The loading road has also been used again since 2006 by a private railway. In 2007 the Bundeswehr tracks were even used to load timber. With regard to passenger transport , it is no longer of great importance today, but it has never been degraded to a demand stop .
In its greatest expansion, Immelborn station had three main tracks (1W, 2W, 3W) and three further freight tracks (4W-6W) on the Werra railway side and on the Liebensteiner side the main track with bypass track (1O, 2O) and a locomotive shed track (3O) for a small locomotive.
Major renovations and the connection of the station to an electronic signal box are planned for 2020 . Platform 2 is to be omitted and passenger train crossings are to be made possible by a central switch.

Bus connection
Since the end of passenger traffic on the branch line to Bad Liebenstein and Steinbach, the buses have stopped in front of the train station next to the tracks to Bad Liebenstein on Bornwiesenweg . Since the beginning of the 90s of the last century, the former stop of the rail replacement service has no longer been used, and this is no longer possible due to modifications. When changing between bus and train, you should plan to walk about 300 m. To get to the bus stop in Salzunger Straße, you now have to cross the Werrabahn and at least Bahnhofstraße.
