The Laives train station ( Italian: Stazione di Laives ) is located on the Brenner Railway in the south of South Tyrol .
location
The Laives train station is located 231 m above sea level in the middle of the valley floor of the Unterland in the agricultural areas between the Adige and the outskirts of Leifers . It is the first stop on the Brenner Railway south of Bolzano .
history
When the section of the Brenner Railway from Verona through the Adige Valley to Bolzano was opened in 1859, Laives had not yet been equipped with a station. In order to obtain a suitable loading facility for their agricultural products, the community subsequently pushed for a train station to be built, which was also implemented at the end of the 19th century. In 1937 there was an expansion to support the nearby air force base.
In 2007 and 2008, the state of South Tyrol carried out an extensive redesign of the station and its surroundings: Among other things, an underpass and noise barriers were built, a bus turning point and P + R spaces were created.
Buildings
The original reception building is an elongated, narrow, single-storey building made of timber framework filled with brickwork. As part of the redesign measures in 2007 and 2008, a completely new reception building was built alongside the old one.
function
From an operational point of view, today's Laives train station is just a stopping point . It is served by Trenitalia and SAD regional trains . It can be reached by bus via SAD and SASA lines.
