The Plaue (Thür) station is a separation station of the Deutsche Bahn in the city of Plaue in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ). It lies at the fork in the Erfurt – Würzburg and Erfurt – Ilmenau (–Themar) routes . In the direction of Erfurt the line is double-track, in the direction of Würzburg and Ilmenau there are single-track lines.

history

The station was built in 1879 when the railway line from Arnstadt to Ilmenau was being built. The line towards Würzburg was added in 1884.

Originally the line to Würzburg was double-track. After the Second World War, the second track on the Neudietendorf – Meiningen line was dismantled as reparation to the Soviet Union, except for the section in the Brandleitetunnel between the Gehlberg and Oberhof stations. At the beginning of the 1980s, the busy Neudietendorf – Plaue line was expanded to double-track again and electrified as far as Arnstadt, the overhead line was dismantled again after the fall of the Wall. The planned expansion of electrification failed because the GDR was unable to build a power station for traction current.

Freight traffic to Plaue as its destination station was discontinued in the 1970s. The track to the Dosdorf brickworks was also shut down and dismantled during this time. Shunting no longer took place in the 1980s and the tracks to the goods shed were dismantled. However, it was still possible to submit bulky goods to the DR. These were loaded into the baggage cars on board the passenger trains. From the 1990s, the railway systems were rebuilt several times. Of the original ten tracks in the station, only three still exist today.

The station was renovated in 2005 as part of the expansion of the Erfurt – Würzburg line for 140 km / h and tilting technology . The station building was privatized in 2012 and given a new use as a student residence with 20 apartments.
