Kwak Jae-yong (born May 22, 1959 in Suwon , South Korea ) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter .

He studied physics at Kyung Hee University . His film career began fairly successfully with Watercolor Painting in a Rainy Day, but the failure of the next two films prevented him from continuing his work for eight years. In 2001 he had his breakthrough with My Sassy Girl with Jun Ji-hyun . He is known for his penchant for love stories. Also Windstruck was a romantic comedy hyun Ji-with June
