The Plauen (Vogtl) train station at Bf is an operating point on the Gera Süd – Weischlitz railway in the urban area of Plauen . Since September 7, 2015, the new Plauen (Vogtl) Mitte stop has been used for passenger transport, which offers a better transition to local public transport .

history

With the construction of the Elstertalbahn in 1875, a rail connection was created from Gera to Plauen and on to Weischlitz . Because of the difference in altitude, it was not possible to integrate it into the existing Plauen station on the Saxon-Bavarian Railway. That is why the lower station began operating for passenger and freight traffic on this route.

On July 1, 1911, the company previously known as Plauen iV unt Bf was given the current name Plauen (Vogtl) unt Bf .

From 1923 to 1972, the trains on the Lottengrün – Plauen line also ended there , which already flowed into the Elstertal Railway at Plauen-Chrieschwitz.

Shortly before the end of the Second World War , on March 21, 1945, the station building at the lower station was also completely reduced to rubble during the great bombing raid on Plauen.

A new building could not be erected until 20 years later, and Mitropa moved into it in 1968 . Along with Sangerhausen , Potsdam Pirschheide and Plauen (Vogtl) ob Bf, it is one of the few larger reception buildings that the Deutsche Reichsbahn built between the late 1950s and mid-1970s.

business

The lower station mainly served the regional freight and passenger traffic on the Elstertalbahn from Gera via Greiz to Weischlitz and the branching branch line to Lottengrün-Falkenstein . Until 1945 the Elstertalbahn was also used by express trains with a stop in Plauen, for example between Cheb and Weimar . Even after 1945, some long-distance trains ran on the route with a stop in the lower station, at times also the Karlex from Berlin to Karlovy Vary . After the second track on the Leipzig – Hof railway line was rebuilt in the 1970s, long-distance traffic was relocated entirely to this line and no longer touched the lower station. Around 1980, most recently in the 1981/82 winter timetable, the D 460/461 "Karola" ran again for a few years between Leipzig and Karlovy Vary via the lower station.

The extensive track network is hardly used today, there are two platforms and two rail connections for company logistics in the immediate vicinity. To operate the switches and signals, the station has two signal boxes , both of which are still in operation.

The station was served by the hourly regional trains of the VB 6 line of the Vogtlandbahn (Weischlitz – Gera) until 6 September 2015 . Since the opening of the Plauen (Vogtl) stop on September 7, 2015, the station is no longer a regular passenger train stop.

Connections to Plauen public transport

Tram line 2 at the lower station (1991)

For rail traffic in Plauen, the lack of a central train station for all lines leading to Plauen has been a problem since the Elstertalbahn was completed. A connection between the two most important train stations was therefore given high priority. The first route of the Plauen tram therefore ran from the upper station to the lower station in 1894. The depot was also built at the lower station.

The loss of importance of the Elstertalbahn after 1945 and the discontinuation of the connection to Falkenstein in 1972 led to falling demand for the tram to the lower station. Although a final loop was built at the train station in the early 1990s and modern vehicles could then be used, the tram continued to lose passengers. Initially, the tram was replaced by regular taxis in the evenings and on weekends. In April 2007, line 2 was finally completely closed due to the low number of passengers and the route was shut down. Since then, the city bus line C has been running from the lower station to the tunnel stop in the city center. After the Plauen (Vogtl.) Mitte stop went into operation, the Bx city bus has been serving the stop at the lower train station since September 7, 2015.
