Railway stations in Lower Saxony |
The Rotenburg (Wümme) station is a through station the station Category 4 on the railway line Hamburg-Bremen and at the railway Verden-Rotenburg . It is located north of the city center of the district town of Rotenburg (Wümme) in Lower Saxony .
history
The station was opened in 1874 on the Hamburg – Bremen line. Between 1906 and 1928 the railway lines to Bremervörde and Walsrode ( Bremervörde – Walsrode railway line ) and to Minden were opened. In 1958 the connection to Walsrode for passenger traffic was discontinued, the northern connection to Bremervörde followed in 1969. While this is still used sporadically for freight traffic, the southern branch of the route was closed in 2005 and the connecting switch was dismantled. In 1968 electrical operation began. In 1984 the station was extensively rebuilt, this was connected with the three-track expansion of the Hamburg – Bremen line.
investment
The station, which is laid out in an east-west direction, has a house platform (track 6) on the southern station building and an island platform (tracks 4 and 5).
The freight yard was located in the western station apron and are still shunting tracks today. There are park-and-ride car parks to the south. By 2009 the area around the station was rebuilt and the existing station building demolished. This was replaced by a smaller building with ticket sales and a kiosk. In addition, a central bus station was built and a large covered bicycle stand was set up. The train station has been barrier-free since 2007 .
Transport links
The station is served exclusively by regional trains. The route to Bremen and Hamburg is served by metronome trains every hour. This creates an approximate half-hourly service after both major cities (→ Hanse network ). Regional trains run every two hours on the route to Verden .
