The St. Veit an der Glan train station is a train station in St. Veit an der Glan in the St. Veit district in Carinthia , Austria . The reception building and the platform roofs are under monument protection .
history
The route of the Rudolfsbahn was changed in 1912 in the St. Veit area: Until then, the trains from the direction of Friesach and Hüttenberg had entered Glandorf station from the south-east, and the journey continued either in the direction of Klagenfurt, falling back south from Glandorf, or from Glandorf to the northwest via the original St. Veiter train station further west in the direction of Feldkirchen. From 1912, the trains from Friesach and Hüttenberg ran on a new route from the north-east into the new St. Veiter Hauptbahnhof, which was built around this time, after which the route was divided: either in the south via Glandorf in the direction of Klagenfurt, or in the west via the old St. Veiter train station (now called "Westbahnhof") in the direction of Feldkirchen. This re-routing led to the construction of the St. Veiter Hauptbahnhof.
A restoration in cooperation with the monument office took place from 2013 to 2015.
Railway systems
Track, signal and security systems
The station has a side platform and two central platforms .
Platform canopies
The platform roofs rest on striking cast-iron constructions. During the restoration of the listed roofs from 2013 onwards, the original color scheme (gray color for the cast iron construction; green color for wooden formwork of the roof soffit and for railings) was restored using linseed oil paints.
People tunnel
The platforms can be reached through an underpass (passenger tunnel ) . Originally, two flights of stairs each led from the underpass to the platforms; During the redesign in 2013, one staircase was replaced by a lift so that the platforms are now barrier-free.
The two-tone tiles in the pedestrian tunnel from the construction period had to be replaced in 2013, but the original appearance and color scheme were retained. Some of the writing fields in the underpass were also kept, the original inscription of which refers to luggage storage and dining rooms that are no longer in use and to destinations such as Hüttenberg that are no longer used .
building
The station was built from 1911 to 1913 according to plans by the architect Hans Granichstaedten . The elongated, one to two-story reception building in the homeland style has a clock tower with an octagonal lantern on the street side above the entrance area to the counter hall. During the restoration in 2014/2014, the facade of the reception building was painted in the original white color; the base was painted green-gray. The windows and doors were painted green, as was originally the case - based on the reception building of the Vienna Stadtbahn .
Inside the reception building is characterized by Secessionism and Art Nouveau . Wall panels framed by two-tone tiles were largely restored in the course of the 2015 restoration in the counter hall. To round off the historical impression, lighting fixtures were installed at the same time, the appearance of which corresponds to the construction time.
environment
The train station is northeast of the city center. There are bus stops at the station forecourt north of the reception building. The passenger tunnel under the platforms was opened to the south, there is now a large settlement (Weyerfeld) and a parking lot.
