The Toyokawa Station ( Jap. 豊川駅 , Toyokawa-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshu , operated by the railway company JR Central . It is located in Aichi Prefecture, Toyokawa City area . Immediately next to it is the Toyokawa-Inari station ( 豊 川 稲 荷 駅 , Toyokawa-Inari-eki ) of the Nagoya Tetsudō railway company , which is not operationally connected to the former.

Toyokawa is a through station on the JR Central- operated Iida Line , which connects Toyohashi with Iida and Tatsuno . The Inaji ( 伊 那 路 ) express train runs twice a day from Toyohashi to Iida and back, and it also stops in Toyokawa. In regional transport a 15-minute intervals is offered towards Toyohashi. In the opposite direction, local trains run every 30 to 60 minutes to Hon-Nagashino . Individual trains are carried further north from there.

In the adjacent Toyokawa-Inari terminus, the Nagoya Tetsudō (also called Meitetsu) train company offers a 15-minute cycle on the Meitetsu Toyokawa line to . From there, almost all trains continue on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line towards Nagoya ( Meitetsu Nagoya Station ) and Gifu ( Meitetsu Gifu Station ).

The western station forecourt is an important hub for local and regional bus traffic. Several lines of the Meitetsu Group company Toyotetsu Bus and the municipal Toyokawa City Community Bus operate from here . One line is served by the stop on the eastern forecourt.

Toyokawa-Inari Railway Station

The station complex is located in the central district of Toyokawa-chō. It is oriented from southwest to northeast and consists of two parts that are not operationally connected. The through station on the Iida line has five tracks, three of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on the house platform and on a covered central platform . Completed in 1996 reception building is in the form of a rider station , which spans the entire track area. A pedestrian passage is integrated into the bridge-like structure. It enables a connection between the two forecourt without having to pass the platform barriers. There was a passenger tunnel in front of the new building , which also led to a (meanwhile dismantled) second central platform between tracks 4 and 5.

In the station itself Toyokawa no freight is handled, but north of it begins a two and a half kilometers long rail siding , which become a major factory of the rail vehicle manufacturer Nippon Sharyo leads. On this branch line, rail vehicles leave the production facility or are driven there for maintenance. The terminus is the terminus of the Meitetsu Toyokawa line. It has two butt-ended tracks on a half-roofed central platform. Track 1 can accommodate trains with six cars, track 2 those with four cars. The station building is oriented towards the western station forecourt. There is no rail connection to the Iida line.

In 2015, the station section of JR Central counted an average of 3,199 passengers per day, that of the Meitetsu 4902.

Western forecourt

The railway company Toyokawa Tetsudō opened on July 15, 1897 the first section of the later Iida line , which led from Toyohashi to here. Toyokawa was the northern terminus for a week until the section to Mikawa-Ichinomiya opened on July 22nd. The first wooden station building was replaced in December 1931 by a three-storey new building made of reinforced concrete. In order to attract more customers, it also housed shops and cafes, a theater and a cinema. After the takeover of the Toyokawa Tetsudō by the Nagoya Tetsudō (Meitetsu) in 1938, the latter opened a branch line from Toyokawa to Nishi-Toyokawa on May 12, 1942, in order to develop an important arsenal of the Imperial Japanese Navy . Both the main and the branch line passed into state ownership on April 1, 1943. The Ministry of Railways was responsible for the operation , from 1949 the Japanese State Railways .

In October 1945, one month after the end of the Pacific War , the arsenal closed its doors, but the branch line continued to operate. On September 15, 1956, the state railway gave up the sharply declining passenger traffic to Nishi-Toyokawa. In 1963, Nippon Sharyō built a factory on the former arsenal site and has since used the branch line regularly. For cost reasons, the state railway stopped handling goods at Toyokawa station on January 21, 1984, and checked baggage on March 14, 1985. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the ownership of the new company JR Central on April 1, 1987 . After the construction of a temporary facility, the demolition of the old reception building began in June 1995, and the inauguration of the new riding station took place on December 17, 1996.

In 1945, the Meitetsu opened the first section of the Meitetsu Toyokawa line to what was then the western outskirts of Toyokawa. On December 25, 1954, she completed the line to the state railway station. The Meitetsu station part was initially called Shin-Toyokawa ( 新 豊 川 ), on May 1, 1955, it was renamed Toyokawa-Inari . The new name should refer to the nearby Toyokawa Inari , an important temple of the Buddhist Sōtō-shū school. In 1984 the platform was lengthened in order to be able to use trains with six cars on at least one track.
