The Veitshöchheim train station is a regional train station on the 7.0 kilometer of the Main-Spessart-Bahn from Würzburg to Aschaffenburg . It was created during the construction of the Ludwigs-Westbahn , which was fully commissioned on October 1, 1854. The old spelling “Veitshœchheim” can still be found today on the brick central building.

The station was built in the immediate vicinity of Veitshöchheim Castle , a summer residence initially for the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg , and later for the Kings of Bavaria , in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg. The rococo garden within the palace complex is particularly well known .

In the 19th century, this park, which was already public at that time, only barely escaped being destroyed by the railway construction. Engineers had identified the park's central avenue as the optimal route for the railway to be built. However, this idea was prevented by the veto of King Ludwig I , who ordered a route to the east around the Hofgarten, albeit a somewhat less favorable topographically.

The Veitshöchheim train station has been located there ever since. It received a particularly prestigiously designed entrance building, which was supposed to do justice to its functions as an excursion station for the Würzburgers to the park and as a station for the royal palace. The public station building was designed larger than it was appropriate for the village of Veitshöchheim at the time.

In addition to this, a royal pavilion was built in the main axis of the palace , which was connected to the reception building by a walkway . The royal pavilion is used today by the municipal library in the train station and the youth center of the Veitshöchheim community.

Between 2004 and 2005, the platform systems at the station were extensively modernized. For a total of 3.2 million euros, two new prefabricated outer platforms were built, which were moved one platform length towards Würzburg. A new underpass was built to access the platform. House and central platforms were demolished after the new platforms went into operation in July 2005.
