The four-Bahnhof was the maintenance of the respective state railway in Viernheim at the former railway line Weinheim-Worms .

history

Together with the line, the station was opened on August 1, 1905. The line was a cross connection between the Main-Neckar Railway in Weinheim and the Riedbahn in Lampertheim . The owner of the building and that of the station was the Prussian-Hessian Railway Community .

Originally just a stop , it went into operation under the name Viernheim Staatsbahnhof . This was done to distinguish it from the OEG station of the same name in Viernheim. The breakpoint was later expanded into a train station.

The proximity to the OEG train station with much denser traffic, which on the one hand also led to Weinheim, and in the other direction to Mannheim , which attracted more passengers than the destinations Lampertheim or Worms , caused passenger traffic on the route to weaken and freight traffic did not develop either as expected. The line was closed on May 29, 1960, and the tracks between Viernheim and Lampertheim were later dismantled. For the industry in Viernheim - with interruptions - freight traffic in the direction of Weinheim continued until 2010 .

Reception building

The reception building of the station Viernheim is south of the route and dates from 1905. It was heavily structured, in neo-baroque designed forms. It stands on the eaves of the former track system. In the upper area it is decorated with ornamental frameworks and it is covered by a mansard roof. On the city side, the facade is enlivened by a polygonal extension. The goods handling facility was located in a single-storey annex to the east. The reception building is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Today it houses the communal leisure and educational facility Treff im Bahnhof (TIB). In addition to the reception building, the meeting also uses old railroad cars parked in the station .
