As a result of an architecture competition, a blue, four-story glass building was created. Few of the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn shunting workers and ticket issuers work at the Visp train station . The station building is also used commercially; an eye clinic, a few shops and a pharmacy can be found there.

After the new construction of the Lötschberg base tunnel , Visp station became a transfer station for surrounding cities such as Sion , Martigny and winter sports areas such as Saas-Fee , Saas-Grund and Zermatt , as the tunnel ends shortly before Visp and bypasses the larger cities. With the exception of the EuroCity Geneva – Milan (–Venice) and partly the Glacier Express St. Moritz – Zermatt, all passenger trains now stop in Visp.

With the new construction of the train station, the population of Visp grew. In 2006 it had 6500 inhabitants, in 2008 it was 7100 inhabitants. That is an increase of almost ten percent in two years. The reason for this is also the new settlement area Visp-West created by the train station, which is supposed to settle another 3,000 people in just three years. Since then, the number of inhabitants has tended to stagnate. At the end of 2011, Visp only had 7191 inhabitants. The city suffers from heavy through traffic. The A9 bypass , which is currently under construction, should bring relief .

In 2007, Visp train station was awarded the FLUX prize for particularly well-designed transport hubs.

Postbus station

Visp has a well-developed post bus network . The surrounding communities such as Visperterminen , Bürchen , Saas Grund and other localities are served at least every hour . Thanks to the post bus network, Visp became a commercial center for the surrounding communities. This can also be seen from the fact that Visp has more jobs than residents.
