The Forest Churches (Niederbay) station is a place of business of the railway line Passau-Freyung . It is located in the Lower Bavarian town of Waldkirchen in the Freyung-Grafenau district and is operated by the Ilz Valley Railway.

history

The system was built in 1892 on the Passau – Freyung railway line (also known as the Ilz Valley Railway ) and went into operation on October 15, 1892, when the section between Röhrnbach and Freyung was opened.

On November 15, 1910, the Waldkirchen – Haidmühle railway was inaugurated, making Waldkirchen a station for separation . In Haidmühle there was a connection to Bohemia and the Czech Republic until 1945.

Passenger traffic to Haidmühle was stopped on May 26, 1963, goods traffic on the last section to Jandelsbrunn on October 1, 1995. Since then, Waldkirchen has been a simple intermediate station again . In 1982 the regular passenger traffic from Passau to Freyung was stopped.

On July 16, 2011, rail traffic was resumed as part of the Danube-Moldau leisure traffic project on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in the summer half-year and on special trips all year round.

On September 17, 2012, Waldkirchen station was acquired by the Ilztalbahn development association. You want to renovate the listed Waldkirchen train station.

Since 2014, a condensed timetable on the Ilztalbahn with six pairs of trains per day has been made possible.

Buildings and systems

The train station and ancillary buildings built in 1890 are quarry stone buildings, the main building being a cube-like structure, a two-story pavilion building with a wood-paneled upper floor and a flat hipped roof . The arched window and door openings are set in red brick . A ground floor counter room is added, a flat saddle roof building with a wood-paneled gable, in front of it a glazed signal box with a pent roof. The goods hall is a single-storey flat gable roof building with segment-arched gate openings. The facility is registered under the number D-2-72-151-175 as a listed building in the list of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
