The Waldo Station was a train station in long-distance traffic and was last of Amtrak operated. He was in Waldo , Alachua County , Florida .
history
The place received its first railway connection in 1859 through the Florida Railroad between Fernandina and Gainesville . In 1881 the subsidiary Peninsular Railroad opened a branch from Waldo to Ocala .
In 1947 the Seaboard Air Line Railroad (SAL) introduced the Silver Star on the line from New York via Waldo to Saint Petersburg . In 1963, the current station building was built by SAL. The station and operations were taken over by Amtrak in 1971 . From 1994 to 1995 and from 1996 to 2004 the Silver Star was replaced by the Palmetto passenger train , after which passenger traffic via Waldo was discontinued. Today the section from Jacksonville via Waldo to Lakeland is served by Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach buses.
