The Wallau (Lahn) station (today's name: Biedenkopf-Wallau) was a separation station on route kilometer 56.9 of the Oberen Lahntalbahn and 32.5 of the Scheldalbahn and has been a stopping point since November 2001 when it was dismantled .

history

The station was opened on March 19, 1883 at the same time as the Upper Lahn Valley Railway . With the opening of the Schelden Valley Railway in 1911, the importance of the station increased sharply, especially for goods traffic . Since the passenger trains of the Scheldal Railway were tied to Biedenkopf from the start , the station did not develop into a transfer hub. Extensive changes took place in the station in the late 1960s . The exit to Erndtebrück or Dillenburg was redesigned, light signals replaced the form signals and the mechanical interlocking was replaced by an electromechanical interlocking of the E43 series.

Passenger traffic on the Schelden Valley Railway was discontinued in 1987. Freight traffic on the remnant stretch to Breidenstein ended in 2002. After the enormous damage to the forest from Hurricane Kyrill in 2007, there was a short-term need for rail freight transport. In cooperation between the city of Biedenkopf , the district of Marburg-Biedenkopf and the Kurhessenbahn , the “first Hessian timber loading point” was set up on the Scheldalbahn between the former Breidenstein and Wiesenbach stops . Since then the importance of the station has increased again.

Reception building

The station building , which opened in 1883, was so badly damaged by US bombing in 1944 that it had to be replaced by a partially new building in the 1950s . With the dismantling of the Wallau (Lahn) station to the stop, it has not been occupied since October 2001. Due to vandalism , the waiting hall was closed a few months later.

After the building had visibly deteriorated, it was demolished in autumn 2010.

Service offer

Wallau is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). There is also a transitional tariff to the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Westfalen Süd (VGWS).

Today 26 regional trains on the route Marburg (Lahn) - Cölbe - Biedenkopf - Bad Laasphe - Erndtebrück stop at Wallau (Lahn) station on weekdays (except Saturdays) . These connect Wallau every hour with Marburg and Bad Laasphe , and with Erndtebrück every two hours. There are fewer trains on weekends. From 1 May to 31 October every year on Sundays and public holidays, additional bicycle trains run from Feudingen via Bad Laasphe, Biedenkopf and Cölbe to Marburg.

In contrast to most of the other stations in the Kurhessenbahn network, Wallau station has not been modernized. According to Kurhessenbahn and RMV , no renovation was planned in 2010. In the meantime (as of 2019) the station has been modernized, the 110 m long platform is 55 cm high, a weather protection house and a covered bicycle stand have been built.
