The former station hotel is a monument in the Hessian city of Darmstadt .

Architecture and history

The former station hotel was built in 1912 according to plans by the Darmstadt architects Markwort and Seibert . Outwardly, it is very similar to the former Hotel zur Post , which is on the northwest corner of the same block. The Hotel zur Post was also designed by the architects Markwort und Seibert and was to be connected to the station hotel by an intermediate wing - which was originally supposed to be adapted from the outside to the two hotel buildings . Due to a lack of financial resources and the outbreak of the First World War , the intermediate wing was initially not built.

When the architects Markwort and Seibert were finally able to build in the Weimar Republic , their design from 1912 was stylistically outdated. In 1928 they added the missing middle section ( Miele house ) to the line in a new style . The former station hotel forms the head building of the entire complex.

The structure was restored in the mid-1980s . The building is used as an office and commercial building.

Monument protection

For architectural and historical reasons, the building is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
