The former Miele house is a building in Darmstadt .
Architecture and history
The former Miele house - originally the seat of the Miele sales department for southern Germany - was built in 1928 according to plans by the Darmstadt architects Markwort and Seibert . The building is one of the most beautiful examples of Expressionist architecture in Darmstadt.
In 1912, Eugen Seibert and his partner Georg Markwort planned the two hotels on the left ( Hotel zur Post ) and right ( Bahnhofshotel ) of what would later become the Miele house. The two hotels were to be structurally connected by an intermediate wing. Due to a lack of funds and the outbreak of the First World War , the construction of the intermediate wing, which was supposed to match the exterior of the two hotels, was initially not implemented.
In 1928, the line was supplemented in the new style with its central section, the Miele house, based on a design by Eugen Seibert.
The details of the structure still preserved in the original include:
- Stepped gable ,
- Elaborate window bars in the round windows in the upper area of the building and in the windows and skylights on the ground floor ,
- elaborate window bars,
- the windows in the back stairwells .
The flagpole base on the roof is no longer used. The typical "Miele" lettering, from which the building owes its name, was removed and replaced at the end of the 1980s.
Monument protection
For architectural and historical reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
