The Chomutov – Jirkov railway is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was established in 1984 by the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). It branches off at Chomutov ( Komotau ) from the Ústí nad Labem – Chomutov railway line and leads to Jirkov ( Görkau ). The route is now classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha").

history

The Jirkov station was on the Děčín – Chomutov railway line of the former imperial and royal privileged Dux-Bodenbacher Railway and was put into operation in 1872. When this route between Litvínov and Jirkov had to be abandoned in 1971 due to lignite mining, travel between Chomutov and Jirkov was also discontinued.

Today's line between the branch ("Odbočka") Dolní Rybník and Jirkov was rebuilt in connection with the re-routing of the Ústí nad Labem – Chomutov railway through the Ervěnický koridor and put into operation on June 4, 1984. The old connection between Chomutov and Jirkov was abandoned at the same time.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . These resumed travel between Chomutov and Jirkov on September 28, 1997. In the 2003 annual timetable, there were nine pairs of passenger trains on weekdays, some of which went through to Kadaň mesto or Klášterec nad Ohří. Four pairs of trains still ran on the weekends.

Since 2003, the line has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Jirkov Railway Station (2015)

As of the 2009 annual timetable, valid from December 14, 2008, travel on weekdays was increased with 18 pairs of trains between Chomutov and Jirkov every hour . The turning point in Jirkov corresponded to the usual minute of symmetry . Since then, the trains have been connected to the Regiotakt Ústecký kraj traffic system as the U14 line to Deštnice and the U16 line to Kadaň předměstí. However, this attractive timetable was abandoned after a few years. The 2019 annual timetable provides for ten train pairs on weekdays and six on weekends. On weekdays the trains run every two hours with some amplifier services.
