The Dombóvár – Bátaszék railway , also known as the Danube-Draubahn, is a single-track branch line of the MÁV in southern Transdanubia .
course
The route runs from west-northwest to east-southeast. First, the route branches off in Dombóvár to the south. After Csikóstőttős the route points to the northeast and then to the southeast. Due to topographical conditions, the route is not straight, but maintains the direction from west-northwest to east-southeast.
history
The line was built in 1873 and opened to traffic on July 20, 1873.
At that time, due to the topography of the Mőcsény hill, two curves were circumnavigated so that the route ran in a large curve towards Szálka and Zsibrik. The 607 meter long tunnel was inaugurated in 1911 and is the third longest rail tunnel in the country.
According to disproved legends, Italian prisoners of war built the line, but the line was already in operation before the First World War. Since the start of operations, the route has been changed several times, the access road to Zsibrik was built on part of the former railway embankment, the Nordschleife was replaced and now serves as a fishing spot on what will later be Lake Szálkai. The underpasses under the former loop have been preserved to this day, although their condition continues to deteriorate. In its heyday, the route was of great importance as the Trans-Danubian traffic led to Szeged and Oradea. Since the Treaty of Trianon and the decline of mining, traffic on the branch line has subsided.
business
During the day, four passenger trains with railcars of the type Bzmot run on the route.
