The Holenbrunn – Selb line is a former continuous branch line in Bavaria .

history

Branch line to Selb

It was opened on October 25, 1894 with the section Selb-Plößberg - Selb Stadt. The local railway line ran from the Selb-Plößberg station on the Hof - Eger railway line to the old Selb Stadt station. As a freight railway, the tracks continued to the Hutschenreuther porcelain factory (today: BHS Tabletop) near Ludwigsmühle.

Extension to Holenbrunn

On May 1, 1914, the local line was extended via Thiersheim to Holenbrunn on the Hof – Marktredwitz line.

Roundhouse in Selb with a railway museum

The previous terminal station in Selb Stadt was relocated. A new through station with goods handling was built in the north and was again referred to as Selb Stadt. The locomotives on the line could now be handled in a locomotive shed with a turntable. The locomotive shed was subordinated to the yard as a locomotive station . The engine shed has been preserved and a railway museum is housed there.

After the opening of the new one, the first station in Selb Stadt is sometimes referred to as “Selb Lower City” to distinguish it. The first two-tier locomotive shed without a turntable is also available on the first station site. It is used as an office building.

Numerous industrial tracks led to the porcelain factories in the city area, some of which, like Rosenthal AG , carried out wagonload traffic on the factory premises with their own diesel locomotive or, like Heinrich & Co. with a steam storage locomotive .

Shutdown

Passenger traffic on the 22-kilometer section Selb Stadt - Thiersheim - Holenbrunn was suspended on September 28, 1986, as did freight traffic on the Höchstädt-Thierstein - Thiersheim section. The section Selb Stadt - Höchstädt-Thierstein was closed on May 28, 1988 and that between Wunsiedel-Holenbrunn - Thiersheim on March 5, 1993. The section Selb Stadt - Thiersheim was officially closed on February 25, 1993 and the remainder on May 1, 1994.

Bike path

In the meantime, a cycle path has been laid out on almost the entire route .

Name of the departure station

Following closure of the station in the center of the county town of Wunsiedel in the Holenbrunn-Leupoldsdorf railway , the station was Holenbrunn renamed Wunsiedel Holenbrunn to the rail transport links to stress.
