The railway line Hrušovany u Brna – Židlochovice is a railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) as the local line Rohrbach – Groß Seelowitz. The route runs from Hrušovany u Brna ( Rohrbach in Moravia ) to Židlochovice ( Groß Seelowitz ).

history

The KFNB received the concession for the Rohrbach – Groß Seelowitz local railway on September 3, 1894 together with the Branowitz – Pohrlitz line . Part of the concession was the obligation to complete the line within a year and a half and “hand it over to public transport ”. The concession was issued until December 31, 1975. The line was opened on September 17, 1895 only for freight traffic. The KFNB carried out the operation itself.

The most important freight customer at the end of the route was Julius Robert's sugar factory , which was connected to the route via its own siding.

After the nationalization of the KFNB on January 1, 1906, the line belonged to the network of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). From January 1, 1907, the kkStB also took over the management.

After the First World War, the line came to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). These now also took up travel. In 1921 the timetable of the local railway showed up to nine mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. They needed 10-11 minutes for the three-kilometer route.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). During this time there is a significant consolidation of the timetable. Up to 14 pairs of trains served the route. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On June 2, 1979, tourist traffic was stopped in favor of a bus route. From then on, the route was only used for freight traffic. With the closure of the sugar factory after the beet campaign in autumn 1990, the route finally lost its remaining importance.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC) when it has not been used.

The Jihomoravský kraj, as the responsible public transport authority, plans to resume rail traffic and electrify the line. In 2002 the SUDOP company developed a study according to which a new train station could be built in Židlochovice near the existing bus station.

On June 4, 2018, SŽDC put out tenders for the renewal and electrification of the line across Europe. The line was initially scheduled to go into operation for the 2020/21 timetable change. It is planned to connect the S3 line from Brno to Židlochovice.

The contract was awarded to a consortium made up of Subterra and OHL ŽS, which had submitted the cheapest offer with 689 million crowns. Construction began in late November 2018 and was completed in December 2019. Part of the project also included the construction of a new terminal for bus traffic in Židlochovice and the modernization of the Hrušovany u Brna train station.

On December 8, 2019, the renewed route was inaugurated with a special train.

The 2020 annual timetable - valid from December 15, 2019 - provides for passenger trains on line S3 in the Tišnov – Židlochovice route every hour. In the weekday rush hour traffic, a 20-minute cycle is implemented with some amplifier powers.
