Swell:

The Kißlegg – Hergatz railway is a 18.6-kilometer standard-gauge main line in the Allgäu . It leads from Kißlegg via Wangen im Allgäu to Hergatz and thus connects the Herbertingen – Isny railway with the Buchloe – Lindau railway . It is operated by Deutsche Bahn , the line is not electrified and is single-track throughout. It is part of the course book route 753 from Aulendorf to Hergatz, which is alternatively referred to as the Württemberg-Allgäu-Bahn , and the course book route 971 from Augsburg to Lindau . The route is integrated into the Bodensee-Oberschwaben transport association (bodo).

history

End of the route: Hergatz station

After the Bavarian Hergatz had already got their railway connection in 1853 and the Wuerttembergian Kißlegg in 1870, the Oberamtsstadt Wangen remained without a railway connection. It was not until 1876 that the city reached the decision to build a 13.3 kilometer long connecting line from Kißlegg. This could be opened on July 31, 1880. In 1887, a state treaty between the two countries decided to close the 5.3 kilometer long gap to Hergatz; it went into operation on July 15, 1890. The new connection allows since its completion a shorter route from Munich to Lindau than about Kempten leading Bavarian Allgäu Railway .

business

Passing Eurocity at Wangen (Allgäu) station

The three Eurocity train pairs Munich – Memmingen – Lindau – Zurich (–Basel) hauled by class 218 locomotives run over the route without stopping.

Morning back and back in the evening runs a railcar with the Series 612 Driven RE-train pair Lindau Hergatz-Kißlegg-Memmingen-Buchloe-Munich.

During the day , the regional train line (Aulendorf–) Kißlegg – Hergatz – Lindau operated by class 650 (previously 628 ) railcars runs every two hours in local traffic . In addition, railcars of the same series operate as booster trains between Kißlegg and Wangen, as a connection to the trains on the Memmingen – Kißlegg – Aulendorf – Sigmaringen route.

Repeater trains run between Hergatz and Wangen, especially on weekdays.

Due to a lack of vehicles at DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee, regional transport operations have been largely suspended since February 25, 2019 until further notice and the trains are being replaced by buses.

Until 2011 there was still the regional train line Augsburg-Buchloe-Memmingen-Kißlegg-Hergatz-Lindau, which was operated with class 642 railcars or class 218 locomotives with n-cars , which meant that a train ran continuously every hour. This line was abandoned in favor of additional trains between Kißlegg and Aulendorf.

There is no longer any scheduled freight traffic, but if the Ulm – Friedrichshafen or Arlberg Railway is blocked , it is used as a diversion line. Due to the limitation of the axle load to twenty tons, the usability is limited; From April 2020, however, the standard route class D4 (22.5 tons) will be met again. In passenger traffic, the Kißlegg – Hergatz route serves as a diversion route for the Bavarian Allgäu Railway.

future

As part of the expansion of the Munich – Lindau route, the section is expected to be electrified by 2020. Based on a forecast by the federal government of seventeen freight trains per day for the year 2025 - regardless of electrification - residents fear an increase in noise and vibrations and a decline in the value of their properties. Freight traffic without electrification is seen as unrealistic and as an attempt to deceive “the railways” in order to “downplay” the alleged increase in noise, but DB Netz points to the disadvantages of the route and consequently expects little freight traffic in the future.
