The Kirchheim (Teck) Süd – Weilheim (Teck) railway line was a 7.74 kilometer branch line in Baden-Württemberg . The standard gauge and now disused branch line branched in the city of Kirchheim unter Teck by Teck Railway from that to this day Wendlingen (Neckar) with Oberlenningen connects.

history

The Weilheim (Teck) terminus around 1963

After Kirchheim was connected to the railway network from 1864 and Oberlenningen from 1899, the Royal Württemberg State Railways opened the route from Kirchheim (Teck) Süd via Jesingen and Holzmaden to Weilheim (Teck) on September 15, 1908 . The Kirchheim (Teck) -Bohnau stop only went into operation after the Second World War . From an operational point of view, the two lines already branched out at Kirchheim (Teck) station. At the Kirchheim Teck stop (south) - the zero point of the kilometers - the two tracks were already separated from each other.

Passenger traffic to Weilheim was switched to rail buses on September 25, 1982 . Around 1985 the freight traffic in the Holzmaden – Weilheim section was also abandoned, the section officially closed on March 31, 1988 and then disengaged. Most recently, on August 1, 1995, the remaining section to Holzmaden, which was still served by freight traffic until September 25, 1994, was completely closed.

present

Today the track has been dismantled from km 5.5, which is just behind the Holzmaden train station. The last section of the route was partially converted into a footpath or bike path . However, the city of Weilheim to the Wühle Education Center is keeping it free for possible reactivation. The Weilheim entrance building is used by the Diakonie today. The Holzmadener Bahnhof is a listed building and serves as a restaurant.

future

See plans a restart of Weilheim route and subsequently a new railway line to link with that of Göppingen to Bad Boll leading Voralbbahn ago, which is also shut down. In the regional traffic plan of the Stuttgart region of 2001, the establishment of such a connection is classified under "high urgency". A report from March 2018 predicts at least 3000 passengers a day. However, another report from March 2019 confirmed that the project was not profitable, especially due to the cost-intensive new line between Bad Boll and Weilheim.

The new Wendlingen – Ulm line is to cross the route between Holzmaden and Weilheim parallel to the 8 federal motorway . One proposal provided for temporary use in freight transport during construction work on the new line, but this will no longer be pursued.
