The Merklín – Dalovice railway line is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated as a state-guaranteed local railway Karlsbad– (Dallwitz) –Merkelsgrün. It runs from Merklín u Karlových Var ( Merkelsgrün ) in the Bohemian Ore Mountains to Dalovice ( Dallwitz ), where the line joins the main Chomutov – Cheb line.

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession “ for the construction and operation of a standard-gauge local railway from the connection station to be built in the course of the Komotau – Eger line of the exclusively private Buschtěhrad Railway in the area of the municipality of Dallwitz near Karlsbad via Lichtenstadt to Merkelsgrün along with the associated towing tracks to the Eleonorenzeche and the The Karlsbader Kaolin-Industrie-Gesellschaft and the Frisch Glück Bohemian Trade Union received “ Neuschachte ” on August 7, 1901. Part of the concession was the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it within a year and a half. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

The line was opened on October 1st, 1902. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) for the account of the owners.

The share capital of the local railway Karlsbad– (Dallwitz) –Merkelsgrün , which was founded in 1906, totaled 618,600 crowns in 3,093 ordinary shares of 200 crowns each. The seat of the company was in Prague.

In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. They needed 53-54 minutes for the 11-kilometer route uphill. In Dallwitz there was a connection to the Buschtěhrad Railway to and from Karlsbad.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). With the nationalization of the local railway company from January 1, 1925, the infrastructure also belonged to the ČSD network.

The use of modern motor trains made it possible at the beginning of the 1930s to both compress the timetable and significantly shorten travel times to just 26-27 minutes uphill. All passenger trains were now tied to and from Karlsbad upper station. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded eight pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, all of which ran as motorized trains.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Dresden . The connection was now included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 166f Karlsbad – Merkelsgrün . After the end of the war, the line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Today there are four pairs of passenger trains every day that connect to Karlovy Vary or Karlovy Vary dolní nádraží . Only the class 810 railcars are used .
