The Oberuhldingen-Mühlhofen-Unteruhldingen line was a 2.53-kilometer single-track branch line that branched off the Stahringen-Friedrichshafen line as a branch line in Oberuhldingen - Mühlhofen (today: Uhldingen-Mühlhofen) and led to Unteruhldingen . The line was from the October 2, 1901 Grand Ducal Baden State Railways opened and on 31 October 1950 by the German Federal Railroad again shut down .

history

Unteruhldingen station during the construction of the line
The former Unteruhldingen train station (as of July 2011)

When planning the route from Stahringen via Überlingen to Friedrichshafen in Württemberg , there were two options in Baden : along the lakeshore via Meersburg or via Markdorf along the Linzer Aach and Brunnisach . After the decision was made in favor of the second variant, which left out the Bodenseeschifffahrtshafen Unteruhldingen and Meersburg, the Baden state passed a law on February 25, 1898 to build a short branch line to Unteruhldingen. From there, other places on the lake should be served by a ship line Unteruhldingen-Meersburg- Konstanz . A resolution introduced in the state parliament in parallel to the law for the construction of the route for a further construction to Meersburg had no effect, although the terrain would have made it possible to continue construction without problems. Many other demands and plans submitted up to the First World War were unsuccessful.

Relics

The starting point Uhldingen-Mühlhofen (2005)

Even wider bridges between Uhldingen-Mühlhofen and the passage under the federal road 31 , where the railway to Unteruhldingen left the main line in a southerly direction, and then parts of the railway embankment to Unteruhldingen are evidence of the route . The station building in Unteruhldingen was preserved after the line was closed. Today it serves as a club house, in 2010 it was renovated in accordance with a listed building. Since the shoreline is now further in the direction of the lake, the station building is around 100 meters from the shore today.
