The Ostrava-Svinov – Opava východ railway is a single-track, electrified main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB). It runs from Ostrava ( Ostrau ) to Opava ( Troppau ).
history
The line was built and planned as a branch of the Austrian Northern Railway. Construction began on August 20, 1853 by the Klein brothers , and was officially completed on December 17, 1855. The first train left on October 27, 1855.
In 2005 and 2006 the line was extensively renewed. In addition to the renewal of the tracks and the control and safety technology, the line was also electrified. The first electric train ran on the night of December 5th to 6th, 2006.
