The Opava východ – Horní Benešov railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Kaiser-Ferdinand-Nordbahn as a state-guaranteed local railway . Today it only runs from Opava ( Troppau ) to Svobodné Heřmanice ( Freihermersdorf ), the further section to Horní Benešov ( Bennisch ) was abandoned in 1970 due to mining damage.

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The license for the Zauchtel – Bautsch local railway was awarded to the KFNB on April 16, 1890 together with the Zauchtel – Fulnek and Zauchtel – Bautsch lines . Part of the concession was the obligation to submit the detailed project for approval within six months and to begin construction immediately after receiving the building permit and to complete it within a year and a half. The license was issued until December 31, 1975. The line was opened on June 29, 1892. The KFNB carried out the operation itself.

After the nationalization of the KFNB on January 1, 1906, the line belonged to the network of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). From January 1, 1907, the kkStB also took over the management. After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place .

Jakartovice Railway Station (2013)

As a result of the annexation of the Sudetenland to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Opole . The connection was now included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 151b Troppau Ost – Bennisch . After the end of the Second World War , the route was completely returned to the ČSD.

On April 5, 1970, the Svobodné Heřmanice – Horní Benešov section was given up due to subsidence. The section was finally closed in 1981.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . On December 11, 2005, travel between Jakartovice and Svobodné Heřmanice was discontinued.

Today passenger trains only run from Opava východ to Jakartovice. The 2009 timetable shows a total of nine pairs of passenger trains that run every two hours . Only the two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 are used . The current end point of the route Svobodné Heřmanice is still served by freight traffic.
