history

The concession to build the Piešťany – Vrbové line including the Trebatice – Rakovice branch was granted by the Hungarian Ministry of Commerce to the Budapest company G. Gregersen and Sons when Slovakia was still part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Construction began in 1905 and the line was opened on October 27, 1906. In 1951 passenger traffic was opened on the branch line to Rakovice, which was discontinued in 1971/72. On June 3, 1973, the Trebatice – Rakovice branch line was shut down. On April 1, 1978, tourist traffic on the Piešťany – Vrbové line was abandoned. The route was rebuilt in the 1980s for the construction of the D1 motorway.
