The Rimavská Sobota – Poltár railway was a branch line in Slovakia . It connected the cities of Rimavská Sobota and Poltár in the hilly area of Juhoslovenská kotlina .

history

The railway line was opened in two parts. On November 6, 1913, the Poltár – Ožďany section went into operation. Seventeen days later, on November 23, 1913, the continuation to Rimavská Sobota was approved. It is one of the younger local railways in today's Slovakia.

Passenger traffic was discontinued on October 1, 2000 and replaced by bus connections (which only existed until 2003). The reason for this was the poor state of construction, after almost no freight traffic took place in the 1980s. Since no reconstruction work was carried out and the route was partially overgrown or the rails had been robbed, the route was officially closed on May 3, 2007 by the Ministry of Transport.
