The Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Radom railway is a partially double-track and fully electrified railway line in the Polish voivodeships of Łódź and Mazovia . It is only partially used in local public transport.

Course and state of development

The line begins in Tomaszów Mazowiecki on the Łódź – Dębica railway line and heads east to Drzewica (km 35.993). Shortly before that, at the Radzice station (km 28.424), the Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie railway , the “Central Railway Main Line”, will be crossed, with connections going south from both Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Drzewica. From Drzewica, the route also goes via the Przysucha station (km 51.404) and Wolanów station (km 75.373), from which there is a connection to Rożki station on the Warsaw – Kraków railway line , to Radom (km 88.610) on the Warszawa – Kraków railway line and the end point of the Łuków – Radom railway line .

The line is electrified throughout and has two tracks from Radzice to Radom Potkanów. The maximum speed for passenger trains is up to kilometer 2,100 hundred kilometers per hour and then up to kilometer 25,000 one hundred and twenty. From there it is one hundred to one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour, while on the second track from Radzice it is for large parts sixty kilometers per hour. For freight trains it is eighty kilometers per hour on the first track and sixty kilometers on the second track.

history

The construction of the line began under German occupation, according to some sources the first section to Brbestów was opened as early as 1943, to Drzewica the line was completed on May 9, 1948, and perhaps the first section was only opened then, on May 9, 1948. January the last section Drzewica - Radom was opened. The second track between Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Radzice, built 1955–1975, was dismantled in 1990, the second track Radzice – Radom Potkanów, however, still exists, albeit in a worse condition than the standard track (see section “Course and state of development”).

In 1973/1974 two connecting curves were opened to the then built Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie (Central Railway Main Line). Since December 30, 1975, the Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Radzice section has been electrically operated, and since May 29, 1976 the remaining section to Radom. On the same day, a connection line from Wolanów to Rożki on the Warsaw – Kraków railway line, used only for freight traffic, went into operation. This means that trains in the direction of Skarżysko-Kamienna -Kielce do not have to turn around in Radom, including the detour.

On December 12, 2004, passenger traffic was suspended on the Drzewica – Radom section, but reopened in 2007. With the timetable change in December 2015, the Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Drzewica passenger service, which last consisted of an evening and a night train pair, was discontinued. The route from Tomaszów Mazowiecki to the junction to Idzikowice on the Central Railway Main Line is still used by individual long-distance trains.
