Drzewica is a city in Poland in the Łódź Voivodeship . It is the seat of the town and country municipality of the same name in the Powiat Opoczyński .
history
The first evidence of a settlement on the site of today's Drzewica comes from the first half of the 13th century. The town received the city charter according to Magdeburg law on May 5, 1429 from King Władysław II Jagiełło and thus also the right to hold a weekly market and four annual fairs a year. In 1766, Stanislaus II of August allowed craftsmen to settle in the city and to form a guild . In 1785 the rights were confirmed. With the Third Partition of Poland , Drzewica belonged to Austria from 1795, to the newly formed Duchy of Warsaw from 1807 and then to Congress Poland in 1815 . In 1869 the place lost its town charter. During the Second World War , Drzwewica was occupied by the Wehrmacht and a ghetto was established. In 1945 the Red Army reached the place, which ended the war for Drzewica. It was not until 1948 that it was connected to the rail network with the Tomaszów Mazowiecki – Radom line . During an administrative reform, the place became part of the Radom Voivodeship in 1975 . Another reform dissolved the voivodship and Drzewica became part of the Łódź voivodship.
On January 1, 1987 Drzewica was granted city rights again.
