The Treviglio – Bergamo railway is a railway line in Italy . It is operated by RFI , the infrastructure branch of the national railway company FSI .

history

The line was established in 1857 as part of the then kk Ferdinandsbahn . In 1878 a more direct connection was opened from Treviglio via Chiari to Rovato . The line via Bergamo was therefore declared a branch line and the second track was dismantled in 1919.

In 1954 the line was electrified and developed as a regional connection from Milan to Bergamo . In 2004–2005 the second track was restored and in 2008 the Arcene , Levate and Stezzano stops opened.

traffic

Two lines of the Trenord regional railway operate on the route :

  • a regional line similar to the S-Bahn from Treviglio to Bergamo every half hour;
  • a RegioExpress line from Milano Centrale to Bergamo with hourly regular service, with a stop only in Verdello.
