The Bergamo – Brescia railway is a standard-gauge railway in Italy .

Opening dates

route date
Brescia - Coccaglio April 22, 1854
Coccaglio - Bergamo April 12, 1857

The line was built as part of the Austrian Ferdinand Railway and was opened on April 22nd, 1854 to Coccaglio .

The construction of the missing part of Coccaglio– Treviglio was stopped because the city of Bergamo , which should not be developed according to the plans, announced that the route would be rerouted.

After long discussions it was decided that the part of the route Treviglio - Coccaglio should not be diverted via Chiari but via Bergamo , with an extended course of around 20 km.

On October 12, 1857, the missing section of the Treviglio – Bergamo – Coccaglio route was opened.

The direct route via Chiari was built later and opened in 1878. Since then, the Bergamo – Rovato line (and the Treviglio – Bergamo ) has been downgraded to a branch line , and in the 1910s it was dismantled from two-track to single-track.
