The Vojkovice nad Ohří – Kyselka line is a railway line in the Czech Republic that is used today as a connecting line ("vlecka") and was originally built by the Mattoni company as the Wickwitz – Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn local line . The route begins in Vojkovice nad Ohří ( Wickwitz ) and leads in the Egertal to Kyselka ( Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn ).

history

On April 26, 1894, the entrepreneur Heinrich Mattoni was granted the right to “ build and operate as a standard-gauge local train from the Welchau-Wickwitz station of the exclusively privileged Buschtěhrad Railway to Gießhübl-Puchstein ”.

The line was opened for freight traffic on February 1, 1895. The main cargo was the mineral water bottled in Gießhübel-Sauerbrunn (" Mattoni's Gießhübler ").

On April 15, 1895, passenger traffic was also started, although this was only maintained during the summer course season. Gießhübel-Sauerbrunn was a health resort at the time and was a popular destination for Karlovy Vary spa guests. The 1921 summer timetable indicated four pairs of 2nd and 3rd class passenger trains that took 19 minutes to cover the entire route from Wickwitz to Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn.

The operation was initially carried out by the Buschtěhrad Railway (BEB) on behalf of the Wickwitz – Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn local railway . On January 1, 1923, the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took the place of the nationalized BEB . On July 5, 1923, the local railway was nationalized and completely transferred to the ownership of the ČSD.

In 1936 passenger trains ran on the route for the last time. After the Sudetenland became part of Germany, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over operations from 1938 to 1945.

After the Second World War, the line came back to the ČSD. Since 1993, the line has been operated by its successor České dráhy (ČD). Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

The Mattoni connection was last served in 1998, since then Mattoni has handled all shipping via road traffic.

Since August 15, 2012, the route has been used again for shipping Mattoni mineral water. For this purpose, freight trains run several times a week, which are operated in cooperation between Autodoprava Hanzalík and ČD Cargo . Around a third of total production has since been returned by rail. The official ceremony for the restart of the line took place on August 28, 2012. A steam-hauled special train commuted between Vojkovice n. O. and Kyselka for the visitors of the event.

Vehicle use

The local railway Wickwitz-Gießhübl-Sauerbrunn had only one locomotive of its own called MATTONI . The three-coupled tank locomotive corresponded to the Ia series of the Buschtěhrad Railway and was later given the road number 300.623 by the ČSD.
