According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

On July 27, 1907, Dr. Alfred Reich in Vienna, Theodor Kronet in Wsetin, Anton Kroupa in Howězi, Edmund Hawerland in Neu Krosenkau and Rudolf Zahrada in Groß Karlowitz received the concession “to build and operate a standard-gauge local railway from the Wsetin station of the kk state railway line Mährisch Weißkirchen – Wsetin to Großkarlowitz ” .

The capital of the joint-stock company founded in 1908 totaled 900,000 kroner . 2500 ordinary shares were issued at 200 kroner each, 100 ordinary shares at 4000 kroner each and 1079 bonds at 2000 kroner each. The country of Moravia acquired shares worth 546,000 kroner, the remainder worth 354,000 kroner went to various private parties.

The line was opened on December 21, 1908. The operation was carried out by the kk Nordbahndirektion der kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners. In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. The travel time for the 30-kilometer route was almost two hours.

After the First World War, management went to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

On January 1, 1925, the local railway Wsetin – Groß-Karlowitz was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

In the 2012 annual timetable, the route was served by passenger trains at approximately two-hour intervals. Other trains condensed this timetable in the morning and in the afternoon, sometimes at hourly intervals.

Locomotives

For the account of the local railway Wsetin – Groß-Karlowitz the kkStB procured two locomotives of the 97 series . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.251 and 252.
