history

888 meter long tunnel near Návojná (2011)

After the founding of Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1918, one of the most important tasks of the young state was to adapt the traffic routes, which were oriented towards the old capitals Vienna and Budapest , to the new traffic requirements. The poor condition of the railway lines across the former border between Austria and Hungary was particularly problematic . An ambitious construction program envisaged the construction of over 3,000 kilometers of new lines, including a connection between Bylnice on the existing Brno – Vlárský průsmyk (–Trenčianska Teplá) line and the end point of the local line from Hranice na Moravě in Vsetín . Originally planned as a two-track main line, the project was ultimately only carried out on a single track. Between the newly established junction ("odbočká") Bečva and Vsetín, the new railway used the existing route of the local railway Wsetin – Groß-Karlowitz .

On October 21, 1928, the line was put into operation by the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). The 1931 timetable included a total of seven pairs of passenger trains, most of which were connected to and from Hranice na Moravě . Three of the trains were run as motorized trains. This covered the 44-kilometer route with stops at all subway stations in exactly one hour.

Another new line finally went into operation on May 2, 1937 between Horní Lideč and Púchov . As a result, the line between Horní Lideč and Vsetín was expanded into a double-track main line. On September 12, 1960, the line between Horní Lideč and Vsetín was electrified.

In the 1969/70 winter timetable, a total of five pairs of long-distance trains ran on the double-track line between Horní Lideč and Vsetín, including international trains between Moscow and Prague and between Budapest and Leipzig . A motorized express train served the route Nový Bohumín- Hranice na Moravě-Vsetín-Bylnice- Trenčín and back.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .

In the 2012 annual timetable, passenger trains run approximately one hour between Bylnice and Horní Lideč . Passenger trains run approximately every two hours between Horní Lideč and Vsetín. There are also four pairs of express trains on the route ( Košice -) Horní Lideč– Praha , which have stops in Horní Lideč and Vsetín.

On January 13, 2012, the Bylnice – Horní Lideč section was downgraded to a branch line.
