The Zohor – Záhorská Ves line is a branch line in western Slovakia leading through Okres Malacky . It runs from the municipality of Zohor to the municipality of Záhorská Ves on the bank of the March in the Záhorie region . The train station in Záhorská Ves is the westernmost train station in Slovakia.

history

The railway line was built during the time of the Kingdom of Hungary. It was created together with the railway line from Zohor to Plavecký Mikuláš and was opened on November 15, 1911.

Passenger traffic was discontinued on February 2, 2003, but resumed in July 2003 first by the private company Bratislavská regionálna koľajová spoločnost ' (BRKS), later by the state-owned company Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK). Today the local trains to Zohor only run in the morning and in the afternoon.

Traffic on the route is to be discontinued at the 2019/2020 timetable change. The main reasons are the high operating costs and the low number of passengers (around 180 passengers per direction and day). Furthermore, there is an unreliability in the operational management of the ZSSK due to changes in the use of vehicles and train cancellations with associated rail replacement services.
