Baie-James was a municipality ( French Municipalité de Baie-James ) in the northwest of the Canadian province of Québec in a regional county municipality ( municipalité régionale de comté ) corresponding Jamésie until 2013 . Baie-James was established on July 14, 1971 to manage the settlements of construction workers and employees of the Baie-James hydropower project. Baie-James has been part of the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory since 2014 .

Eeyou Istchee Baie-James

In 2012, a contract was signed between the Province of Québec and the Grand Council of the Cree (Eeyou Istchee) , according to which the municipality of Baie-James was absorbed into the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory at the beginning of 2014 . In its parish council, half of the seats are reserved for the representatives of the Cree and one half of Baie-James.
