history

The discovery of the signet ring of a certain Theodamas , an Indo-Greek who lived in the first century AD, proves that the area around Bajaur was already inhabited in ancient times.

In April 2008, it was reported that the Islamist group Lashkar-e-Islam had moved their headquarters to Bajaur.

On September 1, 2011, 60 teenagers from the area were abducted on an Eid ul-Fitr excursion . 20 under ten were sent back straight away. Then another ten children between the ages of twelve and 14 were released. Currently (as of September 5), 30 children are said to be still in the hands of the kidnappers. According to the head of administration in the region, Islam Zaif Khan , the kidnappers were Afghan Taliban who, with this action, want to put pressure on a tribe loyal to the government. However, they denied that the children were in Afghanistan. A spokesman for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said the kidnapping was an act of revenge against the Mamoond tribe , who set up a militia to fight the TTP.
