The Balaena Valley is an icy valley with gently sloping side walls in the western part of Joinville Island off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is east of Suspiros Bay .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped it between 1953 and 1954. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the whaling ship Balaena under Captain Alexander Fairweather (1847-1896), which during the Dundee Whaling Expedition (1892-1893) the Joinville Islands pay a visit.
