Balance of Power is a British power and progressive metal band from Brighton that was formed in 1995.

history

The band was founded in 1995 by keyboardist Ivan Gunn. Together with some other members from the London area, the recording of the debut album When the World Falls Down began in October 1996 . After the recordings were finished, the band reached a deal with Pony Canyon for distribution in Japan . Several appearances in Japan followed. Shortly thereafter, guitarist Paul Curtis left the band and was replaced by Pete Southern. The band then worked on new pieces. Pony Canyon didn't like Tony Ritchie's singing style anymore, so he was replaced by Lance King. Ritchie stayed with the band, however, for writing the lyrics. In 1998 the album Book of Secrets was released . After the release, work on the next album Ten More Tales of Grand Illusion began . The album was recorded in London at POD Studios and Summit Studios . It was mixed and mastered at OarFin Studios in Minneapolis under the direction of Todd Fitzgerald . The following two albums should be recorded in the same way. Keyboardist Gunn was too busy with his label that he left the band before he could contribute anything to the album. The album was released in North America on Nightmare Records , in Europe on Massacre Records . Leon Lawson could be heard as a temporary guest keyboarder. After the release, a 21-day tour followed, which included 19 appearances. Shortly before the tour, bassist Chris Dale left the group and was replaced by ex-singer Tony Ritchie. After the tour, work began on the next album, Perfect Balance , which was released in 2001. In November, an appearance at ProgPower USA in Atlanta followed . In January 2003, singer King left the band. Work on the next album, Heathen Machine began. Meanwhile, John K. ( Biomechanical ) joined the line-up as the new singer. Then began the recordings for the album, so that it was released on September 23, 2004 on Massacre Records in Europe. In Japan it was released by Avalon Marquee and in the USA by DCA Records . After the publication, appearances in Germany and London and Derby followed . Then work on the next album began. Meanwhile, a compilation called Heathenology was released in 2005, which included live audio and video recordings, among other things.

style

The band plays Power Metal, in which the progressive parts are often very high.
