Balduin III. (Hainaut)

Balduin III. (* 1088 ; † 1120 ) from the House of Flanders was Count of Hainaut from 1098 . He was the son of Count Baldwin II and Ida von Löwen .

Balduin III. joined in his fight for the county of Flanders , which had been withheld from his father by his uncle Robert I , a coalition around Emperor Henry V , which was directed against Count Robert II of Flanders . They attacked in 1105, but were defeated, whereupon Baldwin had to cede Cambrai in 1110 . After the death of Count Baldwin VII of Flanders in 1119, he tried again to conquer the country against his successor Charles of Denmark , but just as unsuccessfully.
