The Windflower ( Anemone blanda Schott & Kotschy , Syn. Anemone apennina subsp. Blanda (Schott & Kotschy) Nyman ), even Lovely Anemone called, is a plant of the genus Anemone ( Anemone ) in the family of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).

The Balkan anemone is a perennial plant with a tuberous rhizome as a perennial organ that reaches heights of growth of 7 to 25 centimeters. The underside of the leaf blade is bare or almost bare. The flower stalk is hairy more or less protruding long. The 12 to 20 bracts are glabrous and colored blue, mauve, white or pink. The collective fruits are nodding.
Flowering time is from March to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.
Occurrence
The Balkan anemone is found in the Balkans , Cyprus , West Syria , Turkey and the Caucasus in coniferous forests, bushes and rock corridors at altitudes of 150 to 1700 meters. The species has become feral in Germany.

The Balkan anemone is widely used as an ornamental plant for groups of trees and rock gardens and has been in cultivation since 1898 at the latest. There are several types (selection):
- 'Blue Shades': The flowers are blue.
- 'Bridesmaid': The flowers are white.
- 'Charmer': The flowers are dark pink.
- 'Ingramii' ('Atrocoerulea'): The flowers are deep blue-violet.
- 'Pink Star': The flowers are light pink.
- 'Radar': The flowers are carmine red, the center is white.
- 'Rosea': The flowers are pink.
- 'Violet Star': The flowers are light purple, their center is light.
