Balthasar Aff (* unknown; † October 17, 1575 ) was Mayor of Heilbronn from 1574 until his death .

Life

From 1547 Balthasar Aff was a member of the city council of Heilbronn. After the aristocratic council constitution by Emperor Charles V from 1552, he was initially a member of the large (but less important) council of the imperial city, in 1563 he belonged to the Heilbronn court, in 1564 he was admitted to the powerful small patrician council, became tax master in the same year and followed 1574 his brother Georg Aff as mayor of the imperial city. His great niece was the wife of David Kollenberger , who was also mayor of Heilbronn from 1607 to 1628.

Balthasar Aff was married to Barbara Beger and had two children with her: Wilhelm and Anna. Wilhelm later married Klara Anna Berlin, the daughter of Mayor Wolf Berlin . Anna later married Ludwig Imlin, the son of Mayor Clement Imlin . These weddings among the Heilbronn patricians were political, as people in law could also be admitted to the patrician council. The mother of Regina Aff (* 1587 in Heilbronn; † 1638 there) was accused of being a witch in 1613, tortured and died of torture in prison.

The Aff family came from the Wetterau and immigrated to Heilbronn in the middle of the 15th century. It is documented there until 1812. The family belonged to the patriciate and is documented in Heilbronn as well as in Weinsberg and Wimpfen .

Balthasar Aff's tombstone is preserved in the old cemetery in Heilbronn.
